The 8 Yaqui Pueblos

During the 16th century at Spanish contacted there was an estimated 30,000 Yaquis living in 80 rancherias in Southern Sonora. By the early 17th century the Jesuits were invited by the Yaquis, as a result, 8 pueblos were created that became the modern day 8 Yaqui Pueblos. These 8 pueblos are mapped below. The information below is only a small portion of the incredible history of the Yaqui.
